Lower Health Care Costs Now

Health care costs are skyrocketing, and Congress must do something to stop it. Last year, instead of addressing the high cost of health care, Republicans in Congress and President Trump passed a budget bill that slashed health care funding, created more barriers to coverage, and enacted policies that will directly increase premiums and out-of-pocket costs for all of us — but disproportionately hitting Black, Latinx and immigrant families hardest.

Congress must act quickly to extend the enhanced tax credits that make health insurance more affordable for over 20 million individuals and families. In January, the House passed a three-year clean extension of these health care tax credits on a bipartisan basis, and now the bill is headed to the Senate. Last December, a bipartisan majority of Senators voted for the same clean extension, but without the 60 votes needed to secure passage.

In addition, Congress and the White House are floating a variety of proposals, most of which would make things worse than if they just enacted a clean extension of the enhanced health care tax credits now. It is time to urge Senators to bring a clean extension of the enhanced tax credits up for a vote ASAP.
