Health Equity Task Force for Delivery & Payment Transformation

Working with partners to advance a health equity agenda on health system transformation

Families USA is partnering with national and state health equity advocates and experts through the Health Equity Task Force for Delivery and Payment Transformation, which will advance an agenda to transform the health care system focused on the consumer, the community, and health equity.

The Health Equity Task Force for Delivery and Payment Transformation advances health care delivery and payment reform policies that promote health equity and the elimination of racial, ethnic, and geographic health and health care disparities. We take an intersectional approach that explicitly incorporates the impact that different identities and experiences have on health inequities, including, but not limited to: sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, English language proficiency, Tribal political status, and immigration status.

We will create a policy agenda that centers on rectifying these inequities, and develop strategies and tactics that are broader in appeal and impact, including building and participating in larger coalitions, and seeking partnerships with diverse stakeholders.

Efforts to transform the health system must include people from communities most affected by inequities in health and health care

The passage of the Affordable Care Act began a period of transformation for the American healthcare system. Over the past decade, change has mainly focused on altering the way health care providers are rewarded so that they focus more on providing high-quality care to a small number of people than poor quality care to a large number of people.

However, while positive, this direction of change overlooks a fundamental problem in our health care system: persistent, extensive, severe, and costly health and health care inequalities based on race, ethnicity, and geography among other factors.

Policymakers have not sufficiently prioritized health equity, and the most affected communities have not been adequately represented in efforts to address this issue.

The Task Force seeks to leverage health system transformation for the benefit of those whom the health system is leaving behind so that it one day provides every single person with the care and support they need to be healthy and thrive.
