Families USA Recognizes Health Advocate of the Year Award Winners

Washington, D.C., January 21, 2020 – Families USA has announced the winners of its Health Advocate of the Year awards. The recipients will be officially honored Friday, January 24 at an awards luncheon during the organization’s 2020 Health Action Conference at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

The winners, selected for their exemplary work championing for better health care, are:

  • Walter Murillo, Chief Executive Officer at Native Health in Phoenix, Arizona, Health Equity Health Advocate of the Year
  • Stacey Pogue, Senior Policy Analyst at the Center for Public Policy Priorities (Austin, Texas) Health Care Value Health Advocate of the Year
  • Tim Jost, J.D., emeritus professor at Washington and Lee University School of Law, Coverage Health Advocate of the Year
  • Robyn Merrill, Executive Director of Maine Equal Justice Partners, Consumer Experience Health Advocate of the Year

“The dedicated, results-oriented work from Walter, Stacey, Tim and Robyn is critical as we fight for better health care and health for all,” said Frederick Isasi, Families USA executive director. “They are all high caliber, compassionate advocates striving to ensure that every family in America reaches their optimal health. We appreciate their significant contributions as health care justice leaders and are pleased to recognize them with these awards.”

Each year during its Health Action Conference, Families USA honors the efforts of state and community leaders in advancing social justice through health care advocacy. Awards are presented in recognition of the organization’s four focus areas: Health Equity, Health Care Value, Coverage and Consumer Experience
