CBO Report: Republican Health Bill Means 24 Million Would Lose Coverage Over Next Decade
While Wealthy and Special Interests are Showered with Tax Breaks, Medicaid Safety-Net is Cut by $880 Billion Over the Next Decade
Washington, D.C. – According to the analysis released today by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the Republican bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) would cause 24 million to lose coverage by 2026. Following is the statement of Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, about the CBO analysis:
“Today’s report, issued by the CBO Director hand-picked by Republican congressional leaders, clearly shows that those leaders are pushing a health bill that would be a disaster for America’s families.
“About 24 million people would ultimately lose health coverage, and Medicaid would be cut by $880 billion, threatening the safety net of millions of children, seniors, and people with disabilities who depend on the program.

“This proposal’s cynicism is underscored by its simultaneous showering of close to $600 billion in tax breaks to the wealthy and corporations. It also belies President Trump’s promise that his health plan would be better for America’s families.
“The new CBO report provides a clear message to congressional Republicans: It’s time to go back to the drawing-boards because the pending bill would cause tremendous harm.”
