Overpayment, Marketing Abuses, Care Delays and More: Top Priorities for Medicare Advantage Reform

10.09.2024

This webinar covers the drivers and impact of Medicare Advantage overspending, and an overview of policy solutions, through presentation and moderated panel discussion. The Medicare Advantage (MA) program has rapidly grown over the past few decades and now provides coverage to more than half of eligible Medicare beneficiaries, as of 2023, with that number expected to continue increasing substantially over the next decade. While enrollment continues to rise, MA plans are engaging in widespread corporate abuses that are a major driver of wasteful Medicare spending without delivering better health care quality or coverage. These abuses are threatening the sustainability of the Medicare program, and directly harming the financial well-being of those who rely on Medicare for their coverage.

Now is the time for health advocates to come together to rein in the abuses in the MA program that are driving unnecessary spending and low quality care, and form a consumer counterweight to entrenched industry interests that largely oppose urgently needed reforms.

On Tuesday, October 8, Families USA hosted an expert panel discussion about MA policy challenges, including some of the biggest abuses driving MA overpayments, key policy solutions, and opportunities to organize and advance a pro-consumer MA policy agenda in 2025.
