Over 75 organizations thank key senators for their leadership on prioritizing Medicare price negotiations
08.19.2021
On August 19, 2021, Families USA led over 75 national, state, and community organizations in thanking five key Senators who courageously filed an amendment that declared strong support for including Medicare negotiation within reconciliation provisions to address prescription drug prices. Sen. Michael Bennet (CO), well as co-sponsors Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (NV), Sen. Maggie Hassan (NH), Sen. Mark Kelly (AZ), and Sen. Raphael Warnock (GA) filed the amendment in the Senate as a part of the budget resolution with reconciliation instructions that authorize $3.5 trillion of investments, including health care priorities, to improve the lives of struggling families. While the amendment did not come up for a vote, it signaled strong support for including Medicare negotiations in future legislation.
As Congress considers legislation addressing the high cost of prescription drugs, Families USA and our partner organizations urge them to advance legislation that includes Medicare negotiations to ensure patients across America have the ability to access affordable prescription drugs.
