October 20, 2021 Testimony before the Senate Committee on Finance
10.21.2021
In this October 20, 2021 testimony before the Senate Committee on Finance, Frederick Isasi, Executive Director at Families USA, discusses the current state of health insurance and health care affordability across the country.
Through the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, 20 million Americans gained health insurance coverage, many for the first time in their lives either through new access in Medicaid or through the health insurance marketplaces. Coverage numbers continued to grow until the Trump Administration began slashing critical programs to help families find coverage, and the COVID-19 pandemic left millions out of work.
This testimony highlights the importance of passing the Build Back Better legislation, expanding on the work accomplished through the COVID-19 response package, and supporting critical programs that expand coverage and access to quality, affordable health care.
Finally, Mr. Isasi reminds the committee that poll after poll shows that most Americans – across the political spectrum – want action from Congress to address health care affordability and abusive prices this year. Now is the time to act!
