Medicaid Matters: To People, Our Economy and the Health Care System

01.14.2025

Medicaid is a critical lifeline for 80 million people — including rural Americans, children, vulnerable seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income working families and veterans. This publication stresses how essential Medicaid coverage and care is to safeguard the financial well-being of 1 in 5 Americans, and comes on the heels of the organization’s recent letter with 344 organizations urging Congress to protect and strengthen Medicaid.

Protecting Medicaid means children miss fewer school days due to illness, adults have less risk of falling into crippling medical debt and seniors can access the support they need to stay comfortably in their homes. Americans from all backgrounds just voted for economic security, imploring their representatives to lower costs on everyday needs like groceries, gas and health care.

Congress has the responsibility to stand with our nation’s families by protecting Medicaid and opposing any attempts to weaken this essential program.
