Families USA Stakeholder Letter to the House in Support of Lower Costs More Transparency Act

12.11.2023

In America today, our healthcare system is burdening families with insurmountable challenges. The current payment model incentivizes expensive treatments while neglecting the fundamental aspect of quality care. This approach fosters soaring costs with little regard for patient well-being. The consolidation of hospitals and health systems, coupled with an alarming lack of price transparency, stifles competition and encourages unjustifiable pricing and anti-competitive practices.

The repercussions of this flawed system are undeniable. Too many individuals and families are forced into impossible dilemmas, choosing between vital medical care and fulfilling basic needs like providing food for their loved ones. Shockingly, nearly half of Americans have had to forgo necessary medical treatment due to exorbitant costs. Meanwhile, premiums continue to climb, placing additional strain on both employers and employees, with many workers experiencing stagnant wages as a result.

Families USA and 16 other organizations representing consumers, patients, clinicians, and employers including American Academy of Family Physicians, Moms Rising, American Benefits Council, and ERIC sent a letter to House leadership calling on the House to pass Lower Costs More Transparency Act without delay. The letter also outlines how it is a critical step forward in making health care more affordable for consumers.
