Congress Must Act: Stop Big Health Care Corporations From Taking Advantage of Rural Communities
07.24.2024
A new fact sheet by Families USA details America’s rural health care crisis and how big hospitals and health care corporations are making it worse, not better. Families living in rural communities face limited access to critical services, like maternity care, and face higher premiums and out-of-pocket costs. More than a third of rural Americans skip needed medical care due to the high cost.
Health care industry consolidation in rural communities is exacerbating this problem. Big hospital corporations are merging and buying up smaller local hospitals to create medical monopolies. These monopolies then close health care facilities, lay off health care workers and providers, and increase health care prices – devastating families’ health and financial security.
