Comments on “Medically Necessary” Dental Coverage in Proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule
09.07.2022
Without Medicare dental coverage, millions of older adults and people with disabilities cannot afford the care they need to get and stay healthy. In this year’s Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS), the Biden Administration has an opportunity to deliver a small but critical piece of this popular, much-needed benefit: “medically necessary” dental coverage. In the MPFS proposed rule, the Administration clarified and codified important language to ensure that Medicare enrollees can get the dental care they need to advance certain medical procedures, otherwise known as “medically necessary” dental care. In this comment, Families USA applauds CMS for taking action on this issue and encourages the Administration to include this issue in the final rule and to use this authority as broadly as possible.
