Trevor Storrs to Receive Families USA Health Care Coverage of the Year Award

Award Honors Years of Leadership in Health Care Coverage Efforts in Alaska

Washington, D.C. – Families USA announced today that Trevor J. Storrs, executive director at Alaska Children’s Trust (ACT), will be presented with this year’s Health Care Coverage Award in honor of his outstanding outreach contributions on behalf of Alaska’s children.

Each year at the Health Action conference, Families USA recognizes the efforts state and community leaders make in advancing social justice through health care advocacy. Awards are presented in recognition of Families USA’s four core areas of focus: Health Equity, Health Care Value, Coverage, and Consumer Engagement, Mr. Storrs will be recognized this Friday, January 26, at an awards luncheon on the second day of Families USA’s 23rd Annual Health Action Conference for his contribution to Health Care Coverage.

“Trevor’s leadership at the Alaska Children’s Trust was critical to the defense of the Affordable Care Act and the efforts of the Protect Our Care Alaska coalition in 2017,” said Patrick Willard, senior director overseeing the Health Action conference at Families USA. “His efforts in a difficult political environment, reflect our theme this year to honor those who stay strong for America’s families.”

At the helm of ACT, Storrs led the way in galvanizing the various grassroots efforts focused on health care to form the Protect Our Care Alaska coalition. Prior to the Alaska Children’s Trust, Trevor was the executive director for Alaska’s statewide lead HIV/AIDS organization for nearly 10 years. During this time, he was instrumental in forming the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness, which helped raise awareness and give a voice to this usually ignored population.

Storrs has been a member of the Alaska community for 20 years and he has dedicated his personal and professional life in service of underserved and vulnerable populations. He has been involved in various grassroots efforts focused on LGBTQ equal rights, ending homelessness, and children’s health. Storrs has been an active leader in building a stronger Alaska by investing back into his community as a core value through education and sharing of personal experiences.
