The People of Nebraska Join Utah, Idaho, and Montana to Vote on Medicaid Expansion in November
Washington, D.C. —Today, the Insure the Good Life ballot initiative campaign to expand Medicaid to 90,000 Nebraskan residents was certified to appear on Nebraska’s ballot on Election Day this November. For months, grassroots and consumer health advocates have been organizing across the state to file the ballot language and collect the 84,908 required signatures to get on the ballot. Nebraska, following Utah, Idaho, and Montana, is the fourth state that has placed Medicaid expansion on the ballot this fall.
Following is the statement of Frederick Isasi, executive director of Families USA:
“Today, 90,000 Nebraskans are one step closer to meaningful health care coverage. This is an astounding moment for the people of Nebraska and for every person who believes that families in our nation should have access to affordable, comprehensive health care coverage, regardless of what state they live in. Nebraskans are joining the movement of voters across multiple states, fighting to make it possible for their families and neighbors to access life-saving health care without having to go bankrupt.
“It is inspiring to see the incredible work and energy of volunteers and consumer advocates canvassing the entire state to help bring thousands of Nebraskans access to affordable and comprehensive health care through Medicaid. Families USA is proud of the Insure the Good Life campaign and everybody who worked so hard to give the people of Nebraska the ability to expand coverage to tens of thousands of people.”
