The People of Idaho, One Step Closer to Helping Vulnerable Residents See a Doctor When They Need One

Washington, D.C. —Today, the Idahoans for Healthcare ballot initiative campaign to expand Medicaid to 62,000 Idaho residents was certified to appear on Idaho’s ballot on Election Day this November. Since the summer of 2017, voters across Idaho mobilized along with grassroots activists and consumer health advocates to file the ballot language and collect the 56,192 required signatures. Idaho, following Utah’s initiative, is the second state thus far that has placed Medicaid expansion on the ballot this fall.

Following is the statement of Frederick Isasi, executive director of Families USA:

“Idahoans are speaking up to make it possible for their family and neighbors to see a doctor when they need one.  Thanks to the hard work of volunteers and consumer advocates canvassing the entire state, Idaho is one step closer to helping 62,000 Idahoans get access to affordable and comprehensive health care through Medicaid.

“Families USA is proud of the Idahoans for Healthcare campaign and everybody who worked so hard to give the people of Idaho the ability to expand coverage to tens of thousands of people.

“It is heartening to see that the relentless efforts at the national level to take away people’s access to health care are being met by waves of voters across states who are lifting up their voices to make sure their families, friends, and neighbors are able to access affordable, comprehensive health coverage. Just like Utahans, Idahoans also want their most vulnerable families to be able to get the health care they need.”
