Statement on Donald Trump’s Nomination of Rep. Tom Price to Lead HHS

Washington, D.C. – The following is the statement of Craig Obey, Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Families USA, on Donald Trump’s nomination of Rep. Tom Price to lead HHS:

“The President-elect is nominating Rep. Tom Price as Secretary of Health and Human Services – a man who has demonstrated time and again his lack of commitment to ensuring affordable, comprehensive coverage for all. As a member of the House of Representatives, Price has advanced proposals that would substantially undermine Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance and dramatically reduce consumer access, coverage, and financial security putting the health and lives of millions in jeopardy. His proposals will make insurance more expensive and less comprehensive – particularly for older adults, the sick, and those with limited incomes. The President-elect has stated: “everyone has got to be covered” – the consistent actions by his pick stand in stark contrast to that promise.”
