Senate passage of budget resolution launches key moment for Congress to be bold on health care

Washington, D.C. – Frederick Isasi, Executive Director of Families USA, issued the following statement after the Senate passed a budget resolution setting the stage for bold health care legislation.

“Families USA applauds the Senate for passing a budget resolution that could begin a process to substantially lower health care costs, reduce racial and ethnic disparities laid bare by the pandemic, and improve health for everyone in America. This landmark deal would improve the lives of our families and lay the groundwork to build a stronger country than we have ever had before.

“This is the moment for Congress. They need to keep going big and bold for families to get the best health and health care they deserve, no matter their income or where they live. That means increasing affordability and closing coverage gaps so that no one has to choose between paying the rent and going to the doctor. We also have an extraordinary opportunity to lower the rising costs of prescription drugs and to ensure seniors can get their dental needs met the same way they do other health care needs.

“Too many people in this country cannot afford the care and medications they need to stay healthy. Constituents from all walks of life and political backgrounds have said over and over again that investing in our health care is their priority. Congress must not let them down.”
