Mark Hannay Presented Health Advocate of the Year Award in Recognition of His Years as a Champion of Health Care Reform in New York

Washington, D.C. – Mark Hannay, Director of Metro New York Health Care for All, was presented with this year’s Health Advocate Award at a luncheon reception on the second day of Families USA’s 21st Annual Health Action Conference.

“Mark has been a champion of the idea that quality health care should be a right enjoyed by everyone, regardless of economic status,” said Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA. “His hard work and dedication are an inspiration to us all.”

New York Health Care for All is a citywide coalition of community groups and labor unions, founded in 1993, that advocates for fundamental health reform leading to a universal health care program. Besides his work as that organization’s director, Hannay is also a member of the steering committees of various statewide coalitions, including Health Care for All New York, New Yorkers for Accessible Health Coverage, Medicaid Matters New York, and the Campaign for New York Health. He also chairs the board of the national Universal Health Care Action Network and serves on the board of the NY Metro Chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program.

Hannay graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in psychology and studied psychology at the graduate level at New York University.
