House Budget Committee Advances Republican Health Bill that Breaks All of President Trump’s Promises

Washington, D.C. – The House Budget Committee today voted to advance the Republican bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Earlier this week, the Congressional Budget Office said that, if enacted, the bill would cause 24 million to lose coverage by 2026; drive up costs for older Americans, which will leave many of them uninsured; strip $880 billion from the Medicaid program; and shower about $575 billion in tax cuts on the wealthy and special interest groups. Following is the statement of Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, about the CBO analysis:

“President Trump promised that any health care bill he signed would cover everyone, be more affordable and offer better care. The bill advanced by the Budget Committee breaks all those promises.

“About 24 million people would lose health coverage. Medicaid would be cut by $880 billion, threatening the safety net of millions of children, seniors, and people with disabilities who depend on the program. And the inadequate tax credits in the bill would drive up the cost of insurance for older Americans, meaning many would have to go without it and pray for the best.

“President Trump promised again today on Fox News that ‘if we’re not gonna take care of the people, I’m not signing anything.’ He could fulfill this promise today by telling House Speaker Paul Ryan to pull this bill and start over.”
