Families USA Wins the “Community” Category in the 2020 Consumer Excellence Awards

Citing its tireless efforts to identify solutions to improve families’ health care, Consumer Action has awarded Families USA with a 2020 Consumer Excellence Award in the “community” category. The organization will receive its award during the 49th annual awards ceremony—which will be held virtually September 30 at 3 pm ET.

In selecting Families USA for the award, Consumer Action acknowledged its ability to engage a broad network of stakeholders representing consumers and industry, and its willingness to reach out to leaders on both sides of the aisle to tackle healthcare problems. Other award recipients are Kaiser Health News for the “media” category and Jessica Altman, Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner, for the “regulatory” category.

“We chose our theme and honorees before this pandemic altered our lives so irrevocably,” said Consumer Action Executive Director Ken McEldowney. “Now, as we, together as a nation, struggle to understand the vast socio-economic implications of COVID-19, these individuals and organizations are proving all the more indispensable to the health and financial wealth of our country. We salute our 2020 honorees for being there for all of us through this great crisis.”

Consumer Action also acknowledged Families USA’s influence on the passage of the Affordable Care Act and noted that it follows the organization’s work closely to keep constituents apprised of the latest developments in health care policy.

“In the face of mounting uncertainty and challenges as families grapple with the greatest health and economic crisis in centuries, it is refreshing to be acknowledged by Consumer Action for our efforts to create a more affordable, accessible, and equitable health and health care system for all,” said Frederick Isasi, Executive Director of Families USA.
