Families USA Welcomes Leading National Safety-net Lobbyist, Shawn Gremminger, as Senior Director of Federal Relations
Washington, D.C. – Families USA, one of the nation’s leading health care consumer organizations dedicated to improving the health and health care of all in the nation, today announced the selection of Shawn Gremminger as Senior Director of Federal Relations. Shawn has over 10 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector on federal health policy with a primary focus on Medicaid, Medicare, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Shawn comes to Families USA from America’s Essential Hospitals (AEH), an organization that represents more than 325 large public and safety net hospitals and health systems across the country, where he served as Director of Legislative Affairs. For eight years, Shawn led AEH’s federal relations work, focusing on a broad range of safety net issues related to uninsured, underinsured, and underserved families. This work includes a focus on Medicaid coverage and payment issues, health care quality and value, and health care issues facing minority and other disenfranchised populations. Shawn also brings a wealth of experience with federal issues related to children, through his role prior to AEH, as Associate Director for Federal Legislative Affairs at the Children’s Hospital Association.
“Shawn has a very deep commitment to Medicaid and social justice, dedicating his career to fighting for high quality, affordable health care. We’re thrilled that he now brings that passion and experience to Families USA. Shawn’s long-standing and bipartisan relationships on Capitol Hill combined with his policy knowledge, strategic engagement, and legislative experience make him a tremendous asset to the Families USA team,” said Frederick Isasi, executive director of Families USA. “Shawn will be essential to our ongoing work with lawmakers to advocate for a health care system that serves all in this nation, and in particular our most vulnerable families.”
“I am incredibly excited to be joining such a well-respected and successful organization. Families USA has long been the premier voice for health care consumers,” said Shawn Gremminger. “After more than a decade of representing safety net providers, I look forward to the opportunity to directly represent the children and families that rely on Medicaid and other vital and successful federal health care programs.”
Shawn holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA.
