Families USA: New health care proposals that will help families’ health, wallets pass out of committee with bipartisan support

Frederick Isasi, executive director of Families USA, issued the following statement on the House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Health’s markup today of bills to address price transparency and dishonest billing.

“Today’s markup and recent hearings on bipartisan solutions to bring down high health care costs is a key moment in the movement for health care affordability, as the House Energy & Commerce Committee demonstrates a commitment to solving key pieces of our nation’s affordability catastrophe that has had families trapped in a devastating health and financial tsunami for years.

“Strengthening price transparency rules and cracking down on dishonest billing are common sense and bipartisan solutions that will rein in abusive business practices and price gouging from large health care corporations and medical monopolies while helping improve health care quality and eliminating corporate gaming that drives up costs.

“We remain confident that Congress will stay the course on these and additional solutions to lower the cost of health care for our nation’s families and not succumb to the industry’s expansive lobbying machine. As Congress works to enact legislation to reduce health care costs, it is critical that we reinvest those savings in additional policies to make health care more affordable for families, improve quality, and address long-standing health inequities.”
