Despite the Backroom Dealings, the Latest Senate Health Reform Bill Results in Millions Losing Coverage and Skyrocketing Health Care Costs for America’s Families
Washington, D.C. – For the second time in just three weeks, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has confirmed the Senate Republican health care repeal bill would cause millions to lose their health care coverage, drastically defunds Medicaid, and drives up out-of-pocket costs for consumers. In late June, the CBO reported that 22 million would lose coverage under the Senate bill, and today’s report said the number remains at 22 million.
Following is the statement of Frederick Isasi, Executive Director of Families USA:
“Despite continuous backroom dealings, Senate Republicans continue to put forward a proposal that hurts America’s families. Any Senator who votes ‘yes’ on the motion to proceed is telling the people of their states that they will seriously consider legislation that would result in families facing astronomically high out of pocket costs, while also stripping coverage from our most vulnerable populations — children, seniors and the disabled.
“Is this really what President Trump meant by ‘make America great again?’
“We need the Senate to put families first. They should get to work on bipartisan legislation to improve the current law and ensure high-quality, affordable health coverage for all of our nation’s families.”
