Consumer Health Care Advocates to Testify in Congress This Week
In Different Hearings, Two Families USA Leaders to Spotlight Affordability and Access, Including Urgent Need to Prevent Premium Spikes
This week, two Families USA leaders will testify as expert witnesses at health care hearings in Congress, and while on different subjects, will spotlight issues of health care affordability, including the urgent need to extend the enhanced tax credits to prevent premiums spikes and millions of Americans from losing coverage.
“In the myriad issues facing our health care system today, none is more pressing and more important than the skyrocketing cost of health care that is forcing millions of families to face premiums increases of hundreds or thousands of dollars, or fall off coverage altogether,” said Anthony Wright, Executive Director, Families USA. “As consumer advocates, Families USA will always uplift the patient voice on the full range of problems in the health system, and this week we are compelled by the deadline to prevent the premium spikes that loom large in a few short weeks. “
The American people on both sides of the partisan aisle are screaming for Congress and this administration to lower the cost of health care, and a clean extension of the enhanced premium tax credits is a crucial step to that goal, to prevent massive increases,” said Sophia Tripoli, Senior Director of Health Policy, Families USA. “Time is running out and every day of delay does damage to the health and economic security of American families and the health system on which we all rely. Americans need immediate action for extension of help for health care premiums, and then a broader effort to address health care affordability overall. We can only achieve real progress in health care when we confront the root causes of unaffordable care and demand accountability from corporate health systems.”
Anthony and Sophia’s participation augments Families USA’s ongoing efforts to protect and defend health care and make it more affordable and accessible for families. They are available to talk about the hearings or Families USA’s health care advocacy agenda. Their oral testimonies as delivered are available upon request.
Anthony Wright, Executive Director, will testify at the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, on Examining the Future of the U.S. Organ Procurement and Transplantation (December 11 at 10:00 am EST).
