Colorado Center on Law and Policy’s Allison Neswood Honored as Families USA’s Coverage Health Advocate of the Year
Denver, Colorado – Allison Neswood, Deputy Director of Strategic Priorities at the Colorado Center on Law and Policy (CCLP) has been recognized as Families USA’s 2021 Coverage Health Advocate of the Year.
Neswood earned the award because of her exemplary efforts championing innovative routes to better health and health coverage through her work at CCLP, an organization that stands with diverse communities across Colorado in the fight against poverty. With community members and fellow advocates, she works through legislative and administrative channels to improve due process protections for Medicaid recipients, protect and improve access to public programs for immigrants and their families, increase nonprofit hospital investments in community health, and center racial equity in health policymaking.
“Allison’s expertise has helped make significant inroads in solving key health care coverage issues that impact consumers,” said Lisa Hunter, Families USA’s senior director of strategic partnerships. “Last year, she played a critical role in legislative efforts that will make state health insurance subsidies available to Coloradans regardless of their immigration status and allow uninsured Coloradans to connect to health coverage through the income tax filing process.”
“I feel so honored and humbled to be receiving this award from the people of Families USA, who provide such valuable support to efforts that are increasing access to quality health coverage and advancing health equity in states across the country,” said Neswood. “I recognize that none of this work is done alone and also want to thank my colleagues and partners in Colorado for teaching and supporting me and for their dedication to this work.”
Each year during its Health Action Conference, Families USA honors state and community leaders who are advancing social justice through health care advocacy. Awards represent the organization’s four focus areas: Health Equity, Health Care Value, Coverage, and Consumer Experience.
