Community Voices: Recommendations to State Policymakers for Advancing Health Equity

As policymakers across the U.S. move to address health inequities, community-based voices should be central in setting the policy agenda. To that end, Families USA interviewed leaders from 50 state- and community-based nonprofit organizations in the winter of 2021-2022. Almost all interviewees were people of color or worked in an organization led by people of color. Informed by their voices, this paper attempts to answer the following questions:
- What are the top equity issues impacting communities of color in America?
- What are possible solutions to address those issues within health policy?
