Families USA applauds new Biden administration actions to help families stay safe, healthy from COVID-19

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Families USA Executive Director Frederick Isasi issued the following statement today regarding the Biden administration’s announcement of new actions to help families stay safe and healthy from COVID-19:

“As we are still grappling with the impact of COVID-19, the actions announced today are crucial to leveraging our best scientific knowledge and public health measures to keep people across America safe and healthy during the holidays and as we learn more about the Omicron variant. The most important thing we can all do is clear: get vaccinated if you are five or older and get a booster if you are over 18. Vaccinations are effective, protective, and free to everyone.

“We need to heed the lessons learned during the initial vaccine rollout and ensure that communities are an integral part of these new strategies. This means making vaccines easily accessible in communities of color, for people with disabilities, and with older and low-income populations. Proactively reaching out to Medicare enrollees to encourage them to get booster shots, family mobile vaccination clinics, and providing information in multiple languages are great examples of meeting people where they are. Governors and providers also have a role to play in increasing vaccine uptake – particularly with Medicaid enrollees and children – which is the best way to stop having the virus dominate our lives.

“A robust, comprehensive approach that limits COVID-19’s spread is the only way to get our country back on track: to continue to rebuild our economy and keep people safe. The steps outlined by the administration today – with a focus on the more important tool in our toolbox, vaccines – will help get us closer to that goal.”
