Get The Word Out: Digital Resources For Talking About How We Build Back Better

09.27.2021

OVERVIEW

As Congress prepares to debate how we can lower health care costs, significantly improve health care equity and access, we have to make it clear to members of Congress that they need to deliver on these incredibly popular proposals. To help you amplify our major health priorities (lowering health care costs, prescription drug pricing reform, extending Medicare to cover oral health, and expanding the Medicaid coverage gap), we’ve prepared these resources meant to urge Congress to pass the Build Back Better act. Please feel free to use and customize the sample posts as you see fit.

  • Congress can make sure that [insert # amount from page 16] more people in [insert state] get health insurance. • #MedicaidExpansion has been crucial to making sure more people get #HealthCare. Most states have expanded the number of low-income adults who are eligible. The rest need to so more ppl have insurance, better access to care and everyone has lower costs. #BuildBackBetter https://familiesusa.org/resources/whats-at-stake-for-americas-families-why-congress-must-go-big-and-bold-in-reconciliation-to-improve-health-and-health-care-for-millions-of-people/
  • In states that haven’t expanded #Medicaid, people who lose their #HealthCare could go bankrupt w/ a trip to the emergency room. Congress must ensure that people in the 12 holdout states have access to the care they need. #BuildBackBetter [insert graphic]
  • The 12 holdout states’ refusal to expand #Medicaid hurts people of color, who are more likely to earn too little to qualify for Medicaid but not enough for the marketplace, than white residents. This is wrong and we can change it. #BuildBackBetter
  • Over 2.2M people, 60% of whom are people of color, fall into the coverage gap of earning too much to qualify for their state’s Medicaid program and not enough to qualify for marketplace subsidies #BuildBackBetter. [insert graphic]
  • #Medicaid is a collaboration between the federal and state governments that insures tens of millions of working families, children, pregnant women, seniors & people with disabilities. Without Medicaid, many of these individuals would be uninsured or underinsured. #BuildBackBetter
  • #Medicaid is a success story. It has outlasted 11 presidents and thousands of members of Congress. It has improved and modernized with the times & it is now one of the most popular and reliable parts of our #healthcare system. #BuildBackBetter
  • #Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (#CHIP) form the backbone of America’s health care safety net, providing #healthcare coverage to a diverse group of more than 80 million people. #BuildBackBetter
  • Who benefits from #Medicaid & #CHIP? 38M children (nearly 1/2 of all enrollees!) & more than 15M people w/disabilities & low-income seniors. It covers more than half of all births in the country & more than 60% of all nursing home residents. #BuildBackBetter
  • #MedicaidExpansion has been crucial to making sure more people get health care. Most states have expanded the number of low-income adults who are eligible. This means more insured people, better access to care and a long-term benefit for everyone. #BuildBackBetter
  • In states that haven’t expanded #Medicaid, people who have health care through their employer and lose it could risk bankruptcy w/ a trip to the emergency room. We need #MedicaidExpansion in every state now! #BuildBackBetter
  • America is in the throes of a profound crisis: deadly disease, economic downturn & an erosion of families’ financial security. Congress can leverage #Medicaid to combat this crisis by passing a bill to close the #CoverageGap and ensure more people are healthy. #BuildBackBetter
  • 39 states, plus DC, have expanded Medicaid. That includes ID, ME, NE, OK, UT, VA in just the last three years! To expand access to #healthcare, the last 12 holdouts must pass and implement #MedicaidExpansion! #BuildBackBetter
  • We’re facing a critical time when states can decide whether fewer people can get health care through Medicaid. @CMSgov needs to make clear that every single person who should be covered stays eligible for #Medicaid coverage.
  • Thanks to the Missouri Supreme Court, the will of voters will be carried out. Missourians like John, who fell into the #CoverageGap, can now breathe easy knowing he can get the care he needs through #MedicaidExpansion. https://youtu.be/JU8NMZCoTGs
  • .@SenatorWarnock, @SenOssoff, and @SenatorBaldwin’s “Medicaid Saves Lives Act” would help close the #Medicaid #CoverageGap, insure over 2 million people, and reduce persistent inequities communities of color and other marginalized groups face.

MEDICARE ORAL HEALTH:

  • Anything short of fulfilling the promise of #Medicare by strengthening it with the addition of a robust #OralHealth benefit will cause prices to go up at precisely the time when too many families are already struggling to pay high costs in everyday life. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/oct/20/us-healthcare-millions-americans-medicare-dental-care
  • Strengthening #Medicare by including #DentalCoverage would represent a giant step toward ensuring that no matter who you are or where you live, you have equal access to affordable care, and better health overall.
  • By adding an #OralHealth benefit to #Medicare, older adults & people w/disabilities would not only be able to afford important #DentalCare but they would also be healthier, have lower #HealthCosts, be better able to get & keep jobs, face less social isolation & more.
  • Poor #OralHealth is linked to conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, respiratory illness and Alzheimer’s. Adding a #DentalBenefit to #Medicare ensures that older adults & people w/disabilities are able to prevent, or manage these conditions without breaking the bank.
  • People across America fought against attempts to turn #Medicare into a voucher system before. Handing seniors a coupon to find their own #DentalCoverage isn’t a substitute for actual affordable care. It will only drive up prices. Congress has the opportunity to include dental coverage to #Medicare!
  • [insert # amount from page 6 of the report] people in [insert state] would benefit from adding oral health coverage to Medicare. Tell [insert congressperson handle] it’s time to modernize #Medicare to include an oral health benefit. https://familiesusa.org/resources/whats-at-stake-for-americas-families-why-congress-must-go-big-and-bold-in-reconciliation-to-improve-health-and-health-care-for-millions-of-people/
  • Anything short of fulfilling the promise of #Medicare by strengthening the program with the addition of a comprehensive, robust #OralHealth benefit will cause prices to go way up at precisely the time when too many families are already struggling to pay for exorbitant costs.
  • Adding #DentalCoverage to #Medicare is widely popular with voters of both political parties. A June 2021 poll showed that roughly 85% of voters support it! Now Congress needs to listen to us and get this  done. https://morningconsult.com/2021/06/30/health-care-proposals-reconciliation-bill-polling/
  • Dental care is the no.1 medical service that people across America skip due to cost. Adding #DentalCoverage to #Medicare would mean that millions of people could afford necessary #OralHealth care, staying healthier & ensuring lower #HealthCare costs for everyone. [insert graphic]
  • Now is the time to add #DentalCoverage to #Medicare. Our health shouldn’t depend on our wealth, but that will only be possible when #OralHealth care is covered too. #MouthsinMedicare
  • A recent poll from YouGov shows that 9/10 voters believe #dentalcare is a necessary part of overall #healthcare and 55% hold their members of Congress responsible for the current lack of coverage. #MouthsinMedicare
  • When asked why #Medicare doesn’t cover dental, voters say it’s because the “gov’t is dysfunctional” & “Congress doesn’t care about older Americans.” It’s time Congress proves them wrong. #MouthsinMedicare
  • #DentalCare is so expensive without insurance that it is the number one medical service that people in America skip due to the cost. Now is the time to add #DentalCoverage to #Medicare. #MouthsinMedicare
  • #Medicare #OralHealth coverage would mean that over 60M older adults & ppl with disabilities who rely on Medicare would not only be able to afford important #DentalCare but would also see improvements in overall health & have lower #HealthCare costs.
  • Older adults and people with disabilities in [your state] are counting Congress to add #DentalCoverage to #Medicare. Our health depends on it! #MouthsInMedicare https://familiesusa.org/resources/people-in-your-state-are-counting-on-congress-now-is-the-time-to-add-essential-oral-health-coverage-to-medicare/
  • For too long, Cheryl has had to opt for pain meds at the dental clinic instead of real treatment because #OralHealth care is too expensive without insurance. Congress has the opportunity to finally make sure there are #MouthsinMedicare.  https://youtu.be/LPHoIhU3zF0
  • For too many people in America like Martha, #OralHealth is too expensive and out of reach. With all her bills to pay and no oral health coverage, Martha needs #MouthsinMedicare. She’s waiting on Congress to act.  https://youtu.be/nrbsL51OcKg

  • Dental care is the number one medical service that people across America skip due to the very real costs of care. This is unacceptable! Adding #DentalCoverage to #Medicare would mean that millions of people could afford necessary #OralHealth care, staying healthier and ensuring lower #HealthCare costs for everyone. #BuildBackBetter [insert graphic]
  • #OralHealth care costs are often prohibitive, even for preventive services. Over 30% of older adults have not had a dental visit in over a year, often due to cost. Medicare enrollees need dental, vision, hearing coverage NOW. #MouthsinMedicare #BuildBackBetter [insert graphic]
  • Medicare should mean health care for our whole bodies. But it currently excludes dental care, meaning many people with diabetes have to pay three to four times their monthly income to stay healthy or not get care at all. #MouthsinMedicare #BuildBackBetter [insert graphic]
  • A broken tooth shouldn’t mean an impossible choice between groceries and dental care. Older adults and people with disabilities paid into Medicare their whole working lives. It should cover their whole bodies. #MouthsinMedicare #BuildBackBetter [insert graphic]
