Statement: SCOTUS Decision to Side with the Trump Administration on Limiting Birth Control Turns the Clock Back for Millions of Women
Washington, D.C. – Frederick Isasi, Families USA Executive Director, released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Trump administration’s rule allowing employers to deny birth control coverage on religious or moral objections.
It’s hard to believe that in 2020, the ability of women to secure birth control as a core aspect of their health care has been denied by the U.S. Supreme Court through the actions of the Trump administration.
Employers provide the most common form of private health insurance in this nation. Now, with impunity, businesses, companies, organizations, and educational institutions have the power to deny coverage for the most private of decisions—family planning.
It is a terrible moment when the ideological beliefs of a company’s CEO, board, or owner can strip away access to health care for employees. In this nation, at this time—despite today’s decision by the Court and the actions of the Trump administration—every woman should have the freedom to make her own choices about her health. Period.
