How CHIPRA Improves Coverage for Children
08.01.2010
This series covers everything you want to know about CHIPRA (the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009), who it affects, and how.
Learn how CHIPRA:
- allows legal immigrant children and pregnant women to enroll in Medicaid and CHIP even if they haven’t met the five-year-bar (a requirement that legal immigrants live in the United States for five years before they can enroll in Medicaid or CHIP)
- gives states a new option to provide pregnant women with comprehensive health care during and after pregnancy that will reduce the cost of medical care for newborns and save states money
- changes the citizenship documentation requirement to make it less burdensome for consumers and states
- provides additional funding for states to cover interpretation and translation services in health care settings
- requires states to provide dental coverage to all children enrolled in CHIP
