Families USA Statement on CBO Report Proving House Republican Budget Will Include Major Cuts to Medicaid

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Anthony Wright, executive director of Families USA, today released the following statement after the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office clarified that House Republicans will be unable to meet their own budget targets without significant cuts to Medicaid.

“This CBO report makes clear that President Trump and House Republicans can’t have it both ways. There is no version of the Republican budget that does not include major cuts to the vital health coverage, services, and providers that every American depends on, especially but not limited to those with Medicare or Medicaid coverage. The budget framework that House Republicans voted for would force deep cuts to Medicaid that will rip health care away from millions of people, including children, veterans, people with disabilities, and working families. The many Republicans who recognize how much Medicaid matters need to be loud and clear to their constituents and to Congressional leadership that their current budget is catastrophic, for the health care and coverage in their districts, and for their campaigns.”
