Families Need Relief from Runaway Prescription Drug Costs: Congress should expand the IRA to protect more people

The rising cost of prescription drugs affects millions of Americans, with nearly 30% of adults forced to ration or skip their medications due to costs. These high drug prices not only force families to make impossible choices between lifesaving medications and basic necessities like groceries and rent, but also drive up health insurance premiums, slowing wage growth and straining family budgets.
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has made significant strides in addressing these challenges for Medicare recipients. We must keep up the fight to expand the number of drugs eligible for price negotiation in Medicare and extend these benefits to the private market and ensure affordable health care for everyone.
