Proposed Tax Credit Would Help Families Pay for Pediatric Dental Insurance

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Treasury Department today issued a set of proposed rules designed to streamline benefits available under the Affordable Care Act. Among the proposed changes is one that will include the cost of pediatric dental benefits in the amount of premium tax credit that families receive. If finally approved, the rules would take effect next year. Following is the statement of Families USA Executive Director Ron Pollack on the pediatric dental portion of the proposed rule.

“Dental care is critically important for a child’s total health and their ability to attend and excel in school. Left untreated, dental disease can lead to a lifetime of serious medical problems, and in rare cases even death. This rule makes it more likely that families will be able to buy a health plan that provides the dental benefits to which their children are entitled under the Affordable Care Act. We applaud the Administration’s move to correct a serious oversight in the initial implementation of the marketplace.”
