President-Elect Trump Just Killed the Republican Congressional Leadership’s “Repeal and Delay” Approach to Obamacare

Washington, DC – At his press conference today, President-Elect Donald Trump responded to a question about the timing of efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Although the President-Elect did not spell out his vision for changing America’s health care system, he made clear that efforts to repeal the ACA will be handled “simultaneously” with adopting a replacement. The following is the statement of Ron Pollack, Executive Director of the health consumer organization Families USA, about this development:

“Today President-Elect Trump killed the congressional Republican leadership’s ‘repeal and delay’ approach for dealing with the Affordable Care Act. He promised that any proposed repeal effort will be undertaken ‘simultaneously’ with a replacement.

“This presumably ends the Republican congressional leadership’s irresponsible attempt to repeal the ACA without any guidance about what would replace it. This no doubt reflects the growing concerns among many people, including a growing number of Republicans, about the danger of the ‘repeal and delay’ approach.

“What remains to be seen is what a proposed replacement will contain. It is now important to carefully review what the incoming Trump Administration and congressional leadership propose as a replacement. It would be no less irresponsible if that proposed replacement causes many millions of families across the country to lose their health care lifeline.”
