Republican Retreat Ends with Empty Promises on ACA Replacement
Washington, D.C. – Following is the statement of Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, on the conclusion of the three-day Republican retreat in Philadelphia that ended today with no announced plan on what would replace the Affordable Care Act:
“The Republicans just spent three days talking about how repealing the Affordable Care Act is their number one priority. Yet they still have offered no credible replacement plan, let alone a plan that would protect affordable coverage for those who recently secured it.
“After almost seven years of sloganeering about ‘repeal and replace,’ and now three days in a much-hyped retreat, the Republicans can only offer ‘repeal and who knows what’s coming next.’ This is irresponsible and shows the disarray Republicans find themselves in.
“If President Trump, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker Paul Ryan are serious about truly protecting the many millions who gained health coverage through the Affordable Care Act, it is time for them to offer a specific plan instead of empty rhetoric.”
