Trump’s Five-Point Heath Care Plan Fails Consumers

Offers Tired Ideas That Have Been Tried and Failed Before

Washington, D.C. – At his address before a joint session of Congress tonight, President Trump offered a five-point plan to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Following is the response of Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, to President Trump’s address:

“If the President is serious about fulfilling his promise to create a great health plan that covers all Americans, he would listen to the stories of those whose lives were literally saved by the Affordable Care Act. If he listened to these stories, including those in the House chamber tonight, he would understand how badly the plan he announced fails.

“Those in the President’s political party who intend to cut funding for the Medicaid safety-net and to slash premium subsidies for hard-working families would cause many millions to lose health coverage. It would also make out-of-pocket costs unaffordable for many others.

“Contrary to congressional Republican leaders, however, Trump said governors should be given the resources ‘they need with Medicaid to make sure no one is left out.’ We intend to make sure Trump fulfills that promise with no funding cuts in this safety-net lifeline.

“This is the time for President Trump to stand up for working families, not just the wealthy, by ensuring no one loses their health care lifeline.”
