WASHINGTON, D.C. – Families USA (FUSA) Executive Director Frederick Isasi announced that Tony Viardo joined the organization as Senior Director of Communications. Viardo is responsible for developing and leading the organization’s communications strategies, including continuing to expand Families USA’s impact with the media, partners, policymakers and other key stakeholders. Ultimately, his work will ensure FUSA is most effectively advancing its policy goals to ensure the best health and health care are equally affordable and accessible to all.
Viardo, a former television news reporter, has extensive experience leading marketing and communications in the private sector and for nonprofit organizations – shaping social media, media relations, crisis communications and branding strategies. Before joining Families USA, he was marketing director at the American Association for Justice (AAJ) –a pro-civil justice association representing plaintiff lawyers nationwide. He led strategy, branding and promotion for AAJ’s membership, advocacy and public education products and services. His background also includes serving in marketing and communications leadership roles at the US Energy Storage Association and the National Association of Clean Water Agencies. Viardo received a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Science in broadcast journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park.
“Tony’s strategic mindset, creativity and entrepreneurial approach will help us drive maximum impact in our critical work addressing high costs, low quality, inequity and industry abuses that are driving poor health outcomes for America’s families,” said Isasi.
“I’m excited to join Families USA at this critical time when there is real momentum toward uncovering corporate abuses in health care that are driving health care costs beyond reach for millions of families,” said Viardo. “I’m looking forward to collaborating with this impactful team to help ensure every individual in our country, regardless of who they are, where they are from or how much money they make, has access to high-quality, affordable health care.”
