Millions Face Potential Loss of Coverage as Republicans Vote to Bring Health Care Repeal Bill to the Floor

Washington, D.C. – Following is the statement of Frederick Isasi, executive director of Families USA, on the Senate vote today to begin debate on a Republican plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The move allows the Senate to potentially vote on an intentionally opaque set of repeal proposals. But all of these proposals will lead to millions losing coverage, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

“Every bill the Senate has considered thus far has been a disaster for America’s families, stripping tens of millions of people of their health care coverage and driving up health care costs for millions more. The Senate bills have been especially devastating to children, seniors and people with disabilities.

“Today’s vote was bitterly disappointing. Are we seriously going to debate taking health care coverage away from our most vulnerable? All we can hope now is that the same Senators who have expressed doubts about this legislation in the past will place the hopes and needs of the people of their states ahead of party loyalty and oppose passage of the Senate legislation.”
