Senate Showing Promising Signs of Returning to Regular Order as Senators Alexander and Murray Reach Bipartisan Agreement That Could Help Stabilize Health Insurance for Millions of Families

Washington, D.C. – Following is the statement of Frederick Isasi, executive director of Families USA, about the news that Senators Lamar Alexander (TN-R) and Patty Murray (WA-D) have reached a bipartisan deal to stabilize the health insurance purchased by millions of families through state-based and federally facilitated marketplaces.

“We welcome the announcement and are encouraged by the news of the bipartisan health care agreement by Senators Alexander and Murray. The agreement would reinstate funding for cost-sharing reductions payments for two years and include millions of dollars for outreach and enrollment for the upcoming open enrollment period, which begins on November 1. We look forward to reviewing language as soon as it’s released.

“Senators Alexander and Murray should be applauded for reaching across the aisle to work on behalf of our nation’s families. We call on their colleagues in the Senate and House to follow their example, return to regular order, and take up this matter quickly. Our nation’s families deserve nothing less.”
