Utahns Stand Up for Families, Friends, and Neighbors; Demand Vote on Medicaid Expansion This Fall

Washington, D.C. —Today, the Utah Decides Healthcare ballot initiative to expand Medicaid to more than 150,000 Utahns was certified by the lieutenant governor to be on the ballot in Utah on Election Day this November. Grassroots activists, consumer health advocates, and health care groups have been organizing since the summer of 2017 to file the ballot language and collect the 113,143 required signatures throughout the state and meet signature thresholds in at least 26 of 29 state senate districts.

Following is the statement of Frederick Isasi, executive director of Families USA:

“It’s an incredible accomplishment that the Utah Decides Healthcare campaign has given the people of Utah a platform to let their voices be heard. Thousands of Utahns have added their signatures to the campaign, declaring it’s time that our most vulnerable families have access to high-quality and affordable health care through Medicaid. We are very proud to support the Utah Decides Healthcare campaign during these months building a grassroots effort that will benefit the people of Utah.

“It’s inspiring to see that, despite the repeated attempts on the national level to strip away access to quality, affordable health care, people across our nation continue to stand up for their families, friends, and neighbors to ensure that nobody has to choose between putting food on the table to feed their families or going to see the doctor. We are excited to support ballot initiative efforts that expand access to health care by raising the voices of families on the state level.”
