Advancing Health Equity through System Transformation: Strengthening the Evidence Base to Achieve Health Equity

Last December, Families USA launched the Center on Health Equity Action for System Transformation, a first-of-its-kind entity dedicated to developing and advancing patient-centered health system transformation policies designed to reduce racial, ethnic, and geographic inequities. One of the Center's new projects is the Evidence for Equity Initiative, focused on raising awareness about the need for a more diverse and transparent evidence base that addresses patient priorities and can support the reduction of persistent racial, ethnic, and geographic health inequities.

Health system transformation aims to advance high-value, evidence-based care. Yet the evidence we have is incomplete and even biased. A number of groups--including racial and ethnic minorities, women, the elderly, and children--have been left out of research practices that has created clinical and health system research gaps.
