Getting Health Care Costs Under Control
New Health Care Network Stresses Quality and Value Over Needless Procedures
Washington, D.C.—President Obama and HHS Secretary Burwell today kicked off the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network to transform our entire health system from one that pays for volume to one that pays for quality and value. Over 2,800 payers, providers, employers, and consumer groups including Families USA, have registered to participate in the Network. The United States has taken bold steps to improve access to health insurance coverage for millions of uninsured legal residents. While more remains to be done to help to enroll uninsured people in subsidized health coverage, we must now begin to focus as a society on reining in spending on unnecessary, duplicative, ineffective, or harmful procedures. Following is the statement of Joe Ditré, Senior Director of Enterprise and Innovation for Families USA.
“We believe that new payment and delivery systems are needed to transform our health system from one that pays for volume to one that pays for quality and value, and one that actively engages consumers in their own health care. We are pleased to see that consumers have been invited to participate in the working groups and in the new network.”
“Consumer participation is critical to help to design these new systems and ensure that they address the preferences, values, and needs of consumers and build their trust. Families USA is committed to informing consumers’ advocates at the state and national levels about the opportunity to participate.”
