On November 6, voters from across the country and from all walks of life voted for high quality and affordable health care.

Both a call to action and a roadmap for progress, Families USA’s latest report, Health Reform 2.0 lays out a path for securing high-quality, affordable health care to all Americans—regardless of income, age, race, or ethnicity—and for achieving the “Triple Aim”: improving health, enhancing quality of care, and reducing health care costs.
Today, Families USA issues a call to action in support of Health Reform 2.0 – a series of 19 specific proposals to improve health care for everyone in our nation. In the years ahead, we will build support for those proposals to hasten their adoption.
The timing for our proposals is challenging—many of you might reasonably wonder, at a point when the Affordable Care Act faces one of its most fundamental threats, is this the time to be thinking about the future of health care? Our answer is, “yes.”

Hundreds of Thousands of People Are Losing their Health Insurance Because of Trump Administration Policies
The Trump Administration has announced initial enrollment numbers for the federally-run Healthcare.gov exchange, which provides individual and small group coverage for the 39 states that do not operate their own state-based exchange. Enrollment was significantly lower than last year—a total of 8.45 million people enrolled representing a drop of 4.2 percent from 2017’s level of 8.82 million and an aggregate drop of over 8 percent from 2016’s level of 9.2 million. This represents a significant blow to the financial security and health of America’s families.

As stewards in educating, equipping, and empowering members of their communities, faith leaders have the unique opportunity to educate their congregants about the new health insurance options available through the marketplace. Because they value health, justice, and equity, faith leaders can be critical sources of information about the Affordable Care Act, which could have a far-reaching impact on millions of Americans—many of whom sit in pews on a weekly basis.
By partnering with health insurance companies, enrollment assisters gain access to plan information and health literacy resources. Assisters can more easily obtain answers to consumer questions about the marketplace plans available to them and troubleshoot consumer problems.
