Health Action 2017 Will Survey the New Political Landscape

Patrick Willard

Senior Director of State and National Strategic Partnerships

The 2016 elections will have profound implications for health care advocacy in the year to come.

Health Action 2017 – next February 16-18 – will take place against the backdrop of a new political environment. Washington will be adjusting to a changing of the guard as the new president is sworn in and a new Congress deliberates the direction of the future of health care.

Families USA is planning to give consumers and activists a roadmap for the health care issues, challenges, and opportunities that await a new administration.

Improving the health care advocacy agenda in the next presidential term

The theme of this year’s conference is Health Action 2017: New President, New Congress, New Agenda for Health Care Advocacy. The conference will give attendees an opportunity to delve into the significance of the changes in leadership and assess the impact on their advocacy strategies.

There are also changes in the health advocacy leadership at Families USA. In January of 1996, our Executive Director Ron Pollack led Families USA’s first major national conference for professionals in the health policy and advocacy fields. This year will mark his last conference and the inauguration of a new leader for Families USA.

As it has for the past two decades, the Health Action conference will bring together more than 500 advocates and professionals to Washington where we will share strategies and best practices for advancing health care access and delivery across the states and at a national level.

Three days of inspiring speakers and networking with peers will leave attendees feeling energized and motivated to tackle the health reform agenda in their states.
