Pre-existing Health Conditions and the Affordable Care Act: Who Benefits

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, individuals and families can sign up for health insurance that is affordable, comprehensive, and that offers peace of mind. The Affordable Care Act provides strong protections for individuals with pre-existing health conditions. Insurers can no longer turn down, cancel, or raise premiums for a pre-existing medical condition. And they are no longer allowed to sell policies that exclude these conditions.

This 50-state infographic series features state-specific data on how many people with pre-existing health conditions will benefit from the Affordable Care Act. Our recent blog, “Demographics of People with a Pre-existing Health Condition,” discusses the magnitude of this key demographic.
