How Maine Became One of the Top-Ranked States for ACA Enrollment
A new report released by Maine’s Consumers for Affordable Health Care (CAHC) and Families USA highlights major factors leading to Maine’s success in enrolling people into Affordable Care Act health coverage. “Regional Assister Roundtables: Maximizing Enrollment Success by Creating a Community of Assisters” (PDF) features:
- Maine’s use of regional roundtables – local, community-based information sharing meetings with navigators and assisters– as a key element to the state’s enrollment success in the first open enrollment period
- effective strategies to support navigators and assisters, including listservs and a state-wide toll-free consumer assistance hotline
Among states with federally facilitated marketplaces, Maine ranks highest in enrollments per capita for the first enrollment period, according to CAHC. From October 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014, more than 44,000 Maine residents enrolled in marketplace health coverage, exceeding the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) original goal of 23,000 enrollments by 92.4 percent.
