Senators Graham and Cassidy Release Another Ill- Conceived Effort to Repeal the Affordable Care Act and Harm Medicaid
Plan Would Dramatically Cut Medicaid and Hurt America’s Families
Washington, D.C. – A health care proposal that would cap and block-grant Medicaid, and dramatically cut funding for both Medicaid expansion and the financial assistance that helps low-wage workers and moderate-income families buy private insurance, was released today by Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA). A detailed analysis of the bill by Families USA can be found here. Following is a statement on the bill from Frederick Isasi, executive director of Families USA:
“This is yet another ill-conceived effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act. It recycles virtually all of the same devastating repeal proposals the Senate already rejected. The nation has moved on. America’s families don’t want to hear any more one-party talk of repeal. They want and expect Republicans and Democrats to work together to stabilize the health insurance marketplaces and take steps to help people afford the coverage they need.
“The better path is the one being laid by Senator Lamar Alexander and Senator Patty Murray – chairman and ranking member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee – who have shown true leadership in their recent health care hearings as they work to achieve bipartisan consensus on how to stabilize the health care marketplace.
“The Senate should reject this latest, partisan attempt to repeal the ACA by Senators Graham and Cassidy and instead help and encourage Senators Alexander, Murray, and their committee colleagues as they attempt to bring a true bipartisan bill to the floor that would actually help America’s families get and afford the health care they need.”
