Families USA, a national nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to the achievement of high-quality, affordable health care and improved health for all, is seeking a State Campaigns Manager. The State Campaigns Manager will manage work aimed at achieving state-based health policy change that benefits consumers in conjunction with state-based partners and support state-based partners in their efforts to engage in federal advocacy. The State Campaigns Manager will work with a team to enhance the range of partners Families USA engages in efforts to improve health care coverage, value, and equity.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with state-level partners, including ensuring state-level advocates have up-to-date access to Families USA resources and expertise
  • Provide strategic campaign, policy, and capacity-building assistance to state level partners on a range of pressing health policy issues
  • Serve as team lead for issues related to the Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) at the state level 
  • Provide support to state-level partners in their federally targeted efforts to protect Medicaid, CHIP, and other health programs
  • Track state legislation related to Families USA’s focus areas including health coverage, health equity, and health care value
  • Track upcoming trends in state health policy and determine, in conjunction with team members, how these trends should influence the trajectory of Families USA’s work 
  • Engage with teammates in efforts to expand the wide range of stakeholders that Families USA partners with at the state and national levels to achieve goals and mission
  • Expand Families USA’s efforts to engage in grassroots mobilization partnerships, strategies, and capacity-building
  • Provide content for Families USA’s programming and information to support state- and national-level partners in their work to improve health and health care, including but not limited to: webinars, conferences, coalition meetings, and written products such as blogs and email alerts
  • Manage logistics, including webinar and phone technology, for Families USA’s programming to support state- and national-level partners in their work to improve health and health care, including but not limited to: webinars, conferences, and coalition meetings
  • Manage Families USA ‘s email lists and contribute to efforts to build our lists and build and send email alerts using email software

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Health Policy, or related discipline required; advanced degree in Government, Public Policy, Public Administration, or a related discipline preferred  
  • Three or more years of working experience is required
  • Experience working in community organizing or grassroots mobilizing preferred
  • Must have a working knowledge of health policy, especially on Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the Affordable Care Act, private insurance, health equity, and health system transformation
  • Ability to build and maintain professional, positive relationships with state-based partners and other key stakeholders 
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and work under tight time constraints
  • Must have political savvy
