Families USA, a national, nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to the achievement of high-quality, affordable health care for all Americans, is seeking a Health Policy Analyst to conduct quantitative and qualitative research and policy analysis and provide technical assistance to local and state-based consumer advocacy organizations across the U.S. The Health Policy Analyst will support to the Health Policy Department through policy and data analysis on a variety of issues related to payment and delivery reform, private insurance affordability, health care value, Medicaid, and/or addressing health disparities, and must be prepared to take on other policy issues as they arise.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Support efforts to implement various reform related to the Affordable Care Act and other health reform initiatives by providing policy research and analysis and strategic advice to consumer advocates and colleagues at Families USA
  • Review and analyze data, design and implement data driven reports that advance our policy advocacy priorities
  • Review policy literature, laws, and regulations to inform organizational policy recommendations and identify opportunities for affecting policy change
  • Help support the organization’s policy agenda in a number of critical areas including payment and delivery reform, private insurance affordability, health care value, Medicaid, and health equity among others
  • Prepare policy briefs, fact sheets, webinars, and presentations
  • Analyze legislation and provide strategic political advice to consumer advocates at the state and local level
  • Participate in program design and development
  • Help conduct direct advocacy with federal agencies
  • Prepare written comments and testimony to advance our policy advocacy priorities
  • Provide policy technical assistance to state organizations
  • Represents Families USA on policy advisory panels, coalitions, and workings groups
  • Perform other duties as necessary to achieve the goals of the program  

Desired Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of key issues related to Medicare, Medicaid, health equity and private insurance is expected
  • Strong research, data analysis, and writing skills
  • Competencies in statistical analysis and statistical software programs
  • Experience working with coalitions and diverse stakeholders
  • An understanding of policy and advocacy campaigns
  • Flexibility and ability to take on and identify emerging issues in health policy
  • Strong ability to convey complex information in writing and orally so that it is easily understood by the public
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks at once, respond to tight timelines, pay attention to detail, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership, relationship development, collaborative, and team building skills
  • Strong verbal communications skills, including experience with public speaking, training, and facilitating
  • Commitment to social justice
  • Ability to travel
  • Relevant work experience: A bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of related experience or a master’s degree in a related field
